What Have You Done For Your Feet Lately?

Unfortunately, most of us don't think highly of our feet. In fact, we don't think of them at all until they hurt. The feet are one of the most abused and neglected parts of the body. They support our weight, get crammed into high heels, take a pounding when we walk, dance, play sports or stand on them all day.

In this post, you will learn a simple way you can care for your feet in just a few minutes at the end of a long day because caring for your feet can help you feel good and prevent many common foot problems.

Your feet affect your balance, posture and ability to be active so if your feet fell good, you feel goo too.

But first, let's check in with your feet. Do you:

  1. Wash your feet everyday?

  2. Cut and file down your toenails often?

  3. Exfoliate, soak, and moisturize your feet regularly?

  4. Get a foot massage regularly (or give yourself one)?

  5. Wear soaks made of natural fibers, and change socks daily?

  6. Wear comfortable, supportive shoes that fit the shape and size of your feet?

  7. Exercise; walk, stretch, strengthen?

How well do you care for your feet according to the check in? Whatever your answers, one of the simplest things you care for your feet is trying out a foot soak, at the end of a long day (or anytime you need relief). Especially if you wear high heels, stand all day, sit all day, or walk all day.

Warm foot soaks not only feel great, they can be very therapeutic. It relaxes the muscles, tendons, ligaments, and soft tissue as well as increase circulation to the feet.

Cold foot soaks are also very beneficial to your feet because they increase circulation and reduce swelling. Cold soaks are best for inflammation or after strenuous activity like hiking, running or even just long distance traveling. Any activity that might cause your feet to swell.

When I need to unwind, unplug from the chaos of the day and fell pampered, I fill a basin with warm water and add a few ingredients from my kitchen. Sometime I add baking soda, which is good for soothing the feet and conditioning the skin. Other times I add some rosemary fresh from the garden to enhance the foot soak's therapeutic benefits, which might include; reducing inflammation, relieving pains and aches and relieving stress. One can also add lemon. Its refreshing and it reduces anxiety and nervous tension.

The point is, be kind to your feet, they are meant to serve you for a lifetime.
