Amazing Things I Found on the Internet This July

Here we are entering our last weeks of July. It's that time of the month where I share some worthwhile things I stumbled upon on the Internet over the course of the past few weeks, from an Artificial Intelligence that helps you write, a website where you write a letter to your future self to a book that explores healing by building a home within yourself. I started this series because there are things, people, book, sites and businesses that I tried and loved so much I could not keep them to myself. I hope you find them insightful.

Most of the things I tried this month were about feeling better, with a few frivolous things peppered in here and there. Without further ado, the things I tried and loved in July were….

  1. The internet archive. It's an archive for the internet itself that begun in 1996. Today, the archive contains: 588 billion web pages, 28 million books and texts, 14 million audio recordings (including 220,000 live concerts), 6 million videos (including 2 million Television News programs), 3.5 million images and 580,000 software programs. They offer virtual library cards, so you can upload items, borrow a book, write reviews of items on the Archive and post questions and messages.

  2. The show Poldark made me happy in so many ways. It's an epic romance novel come to life. This historical drama is about Ross Poldark who returns from the American Revolutionary War to find his father dead, his estate in ruins and his lover engaged to another man. Slowly but steadily, he attempts to rebuild his life. 10/10, a must watch.

  3. In church, we have been exploring country living, so when I came across these two YouTube channels, my mind was blown away. The first is Chad Zuber who challenged himself to live primitively for a year. He moved into the wild with nothing! But a camera of course. You watch him build a hat, make cooking pots and adapt all kinds of primitive tendencies. The second channel is Tube survival wilderness with more than 1 million subscribers, all watching one man create unique water parks with just one or two tools. I was flabbergasted.

  4. My favorite TikTok account to follow these days is @alvanlove . It’s not too hard to see why. He is a Kenyan comedian, singer and radio host.

  5. Do me a favor and read this deeply relatable and triggering book titled '101 Essays that will Change the way You Think' by Brianna Wiest. This self-help book from a young author has attracted the attention of millions on TikTok and for good reason. It is my current read.

  6. My husband has never seen me laugh harder than when I watched Lilly Singh . Maybe you can relate.

  7. I stumbled upon this website named Z-library and it stopped me in my tracks. If you want to read and download all genres of best sellers, this is for you. I recently downloaded 'Big Magic: creative living beyond fear' by Elizabeth Gilbert, author of 'EAT PRAY LOVE', 'Nice Girls Don't Get The Corner Office' by Lois P. Frankel, Ph.D, 'You are a Badass: How to stop doubting your greatness and start living an awesome life' by Jen Sincero, 'The Long Walk to Freedom' by Nelson Mandela and 'The Subtle Art of Not Giving a Fuck' by Mark Manson.

  8. Another cool website is Speedwrite. It is the coolest life hack your teacher doesn't want you to find out about. It generates new, unique writing, from any source text to prevent plagiarism. And it free!

  9. The local small business I want to put you on to this month is the Kilimani Project Foundation. If you are looking for a place to recycle your waste, this is it. Pack up all your glass bottles, plastics or fabric waste every third Saturday of the month along Kilimani.

  10. Another way to recycle materials while making money and social and achieving environmental impact. Dial *483*89# to register and earn redeemable points per kg of waste. So far they have two stations; Total Ngong Road and Total Gigiri, Kenya.

  11. I stumbled upon this website named Book of Anonymous Letters and it stopped me in my tracks. The site is an online platform for people to submit and read letters anonymously. You have to try it because everyone has a letter to write. Whether you need closure, a safe space to confess or a means to let go of your past. I gave it a go myself and the experience was therapeutic.

  12. Another cool website is Unscreen where you can remove the background of any video. A cool trick to have under your sleeve.

  13. A deeply relatable and triggering book am currently reading is 'Adult Children of Emotionally Immature Parents: How to Heal from Distant, Rejecting, or Self-Involved Parents.'

  14. The show I am currently binge watching is Atlanta, a comedy-drama television series created by Donald Glover. I am on season two and completely immersed. Another show to really crack you up is Year of the rabbit.

  15. Do you know about the Manosphere? If not, do me a favor and check out this channels; Aba & Preach, Mediocre Tutorials and Reviews, and The Poor mans Podcast They help me get to know the male species better. And they have interesting perspectives to pop culture.

  16. My favorite Youtubers are Over Twenty Five. It’s not too hard to see why. They have been giviing us fire content lately and am here for it.

  17. If you love to take pictures and are always looking for photography tutorials, check out @camera-bro on Tiktok. He is a photographer that demonstrates all kinds of phone photograghy ideas to take your social media to a new level.

  18. As I mentioned in a previous post, the pandemic completely altered the way I observe the Sabbath day. I used to got to church from 9am then hung out with my friends in the evenings but now I worship at home with a small group of believers all Saturday. Because of this, I have had the pleasure of being a guest at the homes of so many good hostesses, and it was on such an occasion when I stumbled on the best recipe for brown chapati. Check it out here and try it out. You will thank me later.

And as we turn the corner to another month, let us remember listen to that voice inside. What makes you angry? What have you had enough of? What don’t you trust? What doesn’t feel right? What can’t you stand? What makes you uncomfortable? What do you want? Need? What don’t you want and need? What do you like? What would feel good? Learn to nurture that voice inside. We should trust and care ourselves. We are wiser than we think. Our guide is within, ever-present. Listen to, trust, and nurture that guide.

I hope you have the week you deserve. Until next time.
