For those fashion aficionados who are fans of the vintage era, you may have heard of of Grace Kelly, the film star who gave up Hollywood to become Princess of Monaco. In 1950, she wrapped her luxurious Hermès silky square scarf around her head with large sunglasses and birthed a chic trend, "the Kelly head wrap".
After this boom, monarchs, first ladies and Hollywood headliners begun to view the silk scarf as the go-to accessory. And why not? Soft, elegant and timelessly stylish, the silk headscarf has an enduring allure. It's the epitome of feminine elegance.
A century later, fashionistas like me use it to add a dash of chic splendor to any outfit. When I wear it, I feel so feminine, elegant and beautiful.
And it's especially convinient in Nairobi weather. It protects hair from the wind or masks a bad hair day in a sophisticated way.
Tying the “Kelly head wrap” really is as easy it looks. Follow these 4 steps and you’ll be rocking that silk scarf with luxurious grace in about a minute.
Take a square silk scarf and fold it along the diagonal.
Now, place the scarf over your head – make sure the folded edge faces the front.
Bring the folded corners under your chin and cross them around your neck.
You can further neaten the look by tying the folded corners behind the neck and catch the loose corners under the knot at the back. Your choice!
