5 Places You Need to Visit in Nairobi

How many of you are vaccinated and back to socializing with friends and family? I feel like we have collectively been dying to go back to normal.

Many are taking advantage of the new found mobility by reuniting with family and friends, returning to old hangouts and finally booking those trips we have spent over a year wistfully dreaming of.

If this is you, consider this post your guide to the top place you need to visit in Nairobi.

1. Eye of Kenya: Africa's tallest ferris wheel at Two Rivers Mall

It stands tall at 60 meters high above ground and 55 meters in diameter, with a capacity of 240 people per rotation.

A ticket costs Ksh 500/= for a ride, making two rounds fifteen minutes each. It's open between 11am to 9pm so you can enjoy the beautiful view with your date. You can even rent a cabin for a special occasion such as a proposal.

I had a great time and definitely plan to go back there soon.

2. The Mayura : An Indian restaurant at the Hub, Karen.

This is my favorite restaurant so I had to put you on. I give it five stars because not only is it strikingly beautiful and homely at the same time, the food and service are impeccable too. And guess what?! It's never crowded either.

I will take their butter chicken with garlic naan any day.

My husband and I prefer the branch at the hub because it's close to home but am sure the other branches are just as good.

If you enjoy fine dining without breaking the bank....see you there.

3. Entim Sidai Wellness Santuary in Karen

You will break the bank for this one but it's totally worth every penny. Every treatment is a journey. I don't know if I should start with their unique outdoor couples massage, natural aromatic products or exotic pedicure experience, there is plenty to write about.

It's best to visit and experience the journey yourself in the unspoiled landscape and lush forest of Entim Sidai. Inhale the crisp fresh air as you enjoy the healing treatments.

The sanctuary also features a restaurant, a herb garden, relaxation lounges and wellness mineral soaks that will soothe your soul and calm your senses.

4. Urban Burger in Galleria

All burgers are not created equal. I would know because I have tried burgers from fast food joints, fancy stakehouses and even at home.

Besides the price point and atmosphere of the place, what makes a great gourmet burger is the fresh toppings, high quality meat and perfect balance of flavors. Urban Burger have definitely got it right to keep us salivating and coming back for more.

5. Lea Toto in Karen/ Kawangware

It’s hard enough to live and parent under crushing poverty in this pandemic. But for a family with a child suffering from HIV/AIDS in Kenya’s hardest-hit communities, it’s even worse: Life can be touch and go. That is where Lea Toto comes in. It is a community-based outreach program which extends care of HIV+ children into the community through the provision of medical services, nutrition, counseling and capacity building.

Individual and group visitors are welcome from around the globe to Lea Toto, their sister Nyumbani Children’s Home and Nyumbani Village. They have a one-hour tour, and also offers overnight accommodations at Noel House or a second guest house.

You can even volunteer and gain hands-on experience by helping some of the poorest and most vulnerable children and families in Kenya – survivors of HIV/AIDS.

Or you can buy the product sold by some of the men and women the community to promote they business. They sell a wide range of handmade products from baskets to jewelry.
